HISTORY

The BAIANO SYMPOSIUM OF MODELING AND SIMULATION OF PPGMSB originated in a challenging context marked by the pandemic, where its first edition, focused on "Water and Sustainability", was held online, attracting 60 participants. This inaugural event was notable for the presentation of 40 papers, including articles and abstracts, benefiting from collaboration with partners and significant institutional support.

In 2022, the second edition continued in an online format, with a slight increase to 65 registrants, addressing "Sustainable Development for Alagoinhas". This event promoted a fruitful dialogue between the public and private sectors on environmental and sanitary policies, featuring researchers from various parts of Brazil and, for the first time, international attendees, enriching the discussions.

The 2023 edition marked a significant transition to an in-person format, despite financial challenges. With 45 registrants and 28 papers presented, the event greatly benefited from the contributions of speakers from three foreign universities - from England, Finland, and Cuba - raising the academic level and diversity of the symposium. Furthermore, this was the first time the event's proceedings were published, further consolidating its academic value.

A significant milestone was the partnership established with the SENAI CIAMTEC journal, which allowed the publication of the top 8 papers, a collaboration that continues for the 2024 edition. This history of the SBMS not only reflects the growth and evolution of the event over the years but also its ability to adapt to different formats and overcome challenges, maintaining a commitment to promoting science and technology, especially in the field of modeling and simulation.
